Vadodara: More skeletons are tumbling out of the closet of Faculty of Management Studies (FMS).
In the latest revelation it has come to light that for years, the central vigilance committee that M S University constitutes ahead of the exam season has not been able to keep a vigil on the exams that are conducted at FMS. This because the faculty does not keep the university authorities in loop when it comes to exam schedule for the MBA programme.
To top it, cases of students getting caught cheating are not reported to the unfair means committee which handles all such copying and cheating cases that are reported from all the other 13 faculties of the varsity.
In the system that MSU follows, ahead of the exam season, each faculty constitutes its own team to keep a vigil on the exams. There is a central level vigilance committee which is constituted by the university registrar to keep a check on all the faculties.
This central level vigilance squad which comprises of senate and syndicate members also are provided the details of the exam time-table of each faculty from the university’s exam section.
“But of all the 14 faculties, since the exam section does not have exam schedule of FMS, the question on keeping a check at FMS does not exist. Nobody goes to check what is cooking inside the faculty,” said a person, who has remained part of the central squad.
As if it is a closely guard fort, cases of students adopting unfair means during exams are not reported to the university’s unfair means committee. “The faculty itself handles such cases on its own. While each case of copy cats of other faculties is referred to the unfair means committee with description on the actual case, no such case is referred from FMS,” said an official.
The recommendations of the unfair means committee regarding the action to be taken against such students are placed before university’s syndicate body which acts as the final authority. The unfair means committee provides a chance to the students to present their case.
“But since such cases are not reported from FMS, the faculty officials themselves influence the process with no checks and balance,” said an official.
