Three of a family died due to suffocation in Patna

PATNA: Three members of a family died due to asphyxia caused by poisonous gas inside a well at Singhara village under Dulhin Bazar police station area in Patna district on Monday.
The incident took place when 48-year-old Mohan Sao along with his nephews Gajendra Sao (18) and Kankar Sao (25) had gone inside the well to clean it. However, the trio fell unconscious and died due to the presence of poisonous gas inside the well.
The locals told the police that Mohan first entered the well. When he didn’t come out, Gajendra and Kankar followed him.

Dulhin Bazar SHO Ashok Kumar said the villagers faced shortage of drinking water as groundwater level in the region has gone down substantially. So the three victims decided to clean the well to sort out the drinking water problem. But destiny had something else and they died during the course of cleaning the well, he added.
The bodies were handed over to their family members after postmortem. The incident sent shock waves among the residents. Later, local residents created a scene on the premises of the government referral hospital and demanded compensation for the victims’ family.
