There’s no sign of economic despondency in Bihar: Sushil Kumar Modi

PATNA: Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi on Monday reiterated that the sales of goods in the state in the last financial year and also during the first quarter of the current fiscal have clearly proved that the opposition parties were spreading rumour about economic slowdown in Bihar.
“The opposition parties have been trying to create an atmosphere of despondency in the country, but the consumers in Bihar have not shown any signs of it even during the first quarter of the current fiscal,” Modi said at Bihar foodgrain traders’ association conference here.
During 2018-19, goods worth more than Rs1 lakh crore were brought to the state for sales, while the figure in the first quarter of the current fiscal is Rs34,000 crore, Modi said, adding that not a single showroom of motor vehicles had yet been closed in the state.
While 4.57 lakh vehicles of all kinds were sold in the first quarter of the last financial year, as many as 4.68 lakh vehicles have already been sold in the first quarter this fiscal, registering an increase of 11,000 vehicles.

Similarly, biscuits and soaps worth Rs507 crore have been sold up to April this year, when their sales were worth Rs1,232 crore in the entire 2018. Further, ready-made garments worth Rs7,000 crore and fast perishable commodities worth Rs12,323 crore have also been sold in the state, Modi said.
He said vehicles worth Rs16,400 crore were sold in the last financial year while Rs5849 crore worth of cement, Rs17,744 crore worth of iron and steel, food oil worth Rs8,864 crore and mobile phones worth Rs5,524 crore were brought to the state for sales during the last financial year in the state.
