Cop booked for raping minor girl

Varanasi: A police constable posted in Varanasi was arrested on Monday on charges of raping a 13-year-old girl in Mau district seven months back. The girls parents lodged an FIR against the constable in Mau on Sunday after coming to know about her pregnancy.
According to reports, constable Ranjit alias Pappu, a native of Mau district and currently posted in reserve police lines in Varanasi, had allegedly raped the girl of his own village in Sarai Lakhansi police station area. The matter came to light when the girl fell ill on Sunday following which she was taken to the doctor. The doctor informed the parents that she was seven months pregnant. When asked the girl revealed that Ranjit forcibly took her to his house and raped her. He also threatened her of dire consequences if she would open her mouth.
On the complaint of her parents, an FIR was lodged at Sarai Lakhansi police station against Ranjeet. According to Sarai Lakhansi SO DK Srivastava, Ranjeet was booked under sections 376 (rape) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of IPC and the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The girl was sent for medical examination.
