2 booked with spurious desi ghee in branded packages in Patiala

PATIALA: The Patiala police have booked two men with spurious ghee that was allegedly being prepared in Haryana and was being constantly supplied in various parts of Punjab. The police claimed that spurious ghee was used in the package of reputed brands.
The police have recovered this spurious ghee near Akalgarh village of Patiala during police checked and have seized over 250kg of spurious ghee, including 108 boxes packed in the box of Milkfood Ghee brand, 60 boxes of Nutkhat Desi Ghee and 75 kg of Amul Desi Ghee, from the accused.
The accused are identified as Gurchand from Balvehra village of Patiala and Rajesh Kumar of Cheeka town of Kaithal district in Haryana.
The checking was carried out by a sub-inspector Gurpreet Singh along with some other police officials at Akalgarh village of Patiala.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rural, Ajaypal, said, “The driver of the cart was arrested but later he was released. He seems to be innocent but the further investigation is underway in the matter and law will take its own course. However, the raids were on to nab other accused in the case.”

The police said, “Accused were booked under section 272, 273 and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code while the health authorities were called to taken and send the samples further for testing.”
District health officer, Satinder Singh, claimed that three samples of the seized spurious ghee were sent to the state laboratory for testing and soon the raids will be conducted on the wholesale milk suppliers in Patiala.
