Solidarity's legal team has sent yet another urgent instruction to the sheriff to proceed with the seizure of former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe's property to pay outstanding legal costs of approximately R200 000 owed to the union in terms of a court order.
This is according to a statement issued by Solidarity on Monday. Molefe owes the union around R700 000, while he owes around R10m in pension payments that were found to be unlawfully paid to him.
In August, Molefe's
legal team requested 30 days to pay Solidarity the R708 102, but the union wanted
it paid up in seven days.
Solidarity claims Molefe is "buying time" and keeping the sheriff at bay by "paying in bits".
"If he fails to pay the outstanding money to Solidarity the sheriff will be at his door again and he will be forced to part with property to pay our legal costs," said Solidarity's legal head, Anton van der Bijl.
The union further said it had written to the Eskom Pension and Provident Fund to request feedback on the payment of the R10m, it said.
Molefe's lawyer Azwifaneli Rambevha could not immediately be reached by phone. In a previous discussion with Fin24, he declined to comment on the matter.
