AHMEDABAD: A 36-year-old man from
Vejalpur area of the city on Sunday registered a complaint with
Ellisbridge police alleging that his two friends assaulted him for not paying Rs 11 lakh that he had lost to them while playing
ludo.
Complainant, Vasimuddin Shaikh, resident of Raunaqpark in Vejalpur, stated before Ellisbridge police that his friends, Arif Salat alias Rana, resident of Dariyapur and Nasir Khan, who also stays in Dariyapur, had attacked him with sword and a baseball bat as he refused to give them the money.
Shaikh said that he played ludo with Salat and Khan a week ago at a commercial complex in Ellisbridge area all through the night. They were playing one game after another and they were betting Rs one lakh on each game.
Shaikh lost all the games and ended up owing Rs 11 lakh to the two friends. However, Shaikh believed that they were playing for fun and did not take the bets seriously, said a police official. But the duo began asking for the money.
When Shaikh told them that he was not able to pay the money. The duo started to demand Rs 50,000 more along with the Rs 11 lakh as Shaikh delayed the payment. On Saturday night, the duo called him up and asked to meet them regarding the dispute. When Shaikh went to meet them, they first abused him and then attacked him with the sword and a bat.
Shaikh was taken to a nearby hospital where he gave his statement before the cops. Ellisbridge police registered an FIR of assault and uttering of abusive words against Salat and Khan and began an investigation in the case.
