'Pandal-hopping' python rescued from Bandra

Snakes and rescuers
MUMBAI: A snake was found slithering amid a tuft of ropes in a compound where a community Ganesh pandal was being set up at Kherwadi in Bandra (east) last week. A few kids who were playing around the venue on Thursday morning first spotted "the rope" slithering around only to realise later that it was a python. And then, panic and excitement broke out at the place.
Last-minute preparations were on, said Aniket Vengurlekar, part of the organising team. "The python possibly slithered out due to the noise around," he said.

While people tried to contact the police control room to help, a local contacted his nephew, police constable Yogesh Satam, to help. Until then, a few volunteers of the Ganpati mandalsurrounded the python to ensure that it did not slip away from there. "The snake did not leave the spot and coiled around in a corner there," said Vengurlekar.
In the meantime, Satam's associate from Bandra, Hritik Sawant (19), reached the spot and ensured that people kept out of the reptile's way. The police constable, who often rescues snakes, reached the spot about 40 minutes later. He scooped the python up and later released it into its natural habitat.
