Nagpur: In a major crack down on supply and use of mephedrone drug, commonly known as ‘MD’, in the city, the anti-narcotics cell of city crime branch arrested an
aspiring model along with her boyfriend and seized around 25gm of the psychotropic drug worth Rs75,000.
The accused have been identified as Shivani Banait and Bunty alias Bagga Khan. They have been booked under sections of Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to police, they had received a
tipoff about a man who was bringing drugs from Mumbai to the city by a private travels bus. Cops led a trap near Bole petrol pump off Amravati Road.
As soon as the accused unmounted from the bus, cops rounded up Bunty along with Shivani and searched their belongings. Cops recovered 25gm of MD from them.
Senior PI of anti-narcotics cell, Rajendra Nikam, said, “We had solid information about the accused. Their arrest is likely to reveal more about MD drug market in the city.”
It is learnt, Bunty was arrested earlier too in an NPDS case and was absconding in another one, while Shivani is an aspiring model and had participated in several fashion shows in the city.
