CHENNAI: The city is expected to get mild rain in the evening or later in the night on Monday. Though the day was cloudy, there was no rain on Sunday.
However, Chennai and its suburbs had received mild showers on Saturday.
A forecast by meteorological department said, "The sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy. Light to moderate rain is likely to occur in some areas during evening or night. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 34°C and 26°C."
On Saturday night, Nungambakkam received 0.6mm rain and Meenambakkam recorded 4mm rain.
A met official said the likelihood of rain in the evening or at night was low if there was cloud cover throughout the day. "The day temperature will reduce if the sky is cloudy. Clouds moved towards northeast because of the low pressure near Odisha. But that is not going to have any impact in Chennai," he said.
The city is likely to get a few more spells of rain in the evening in the coming weeks due to the southwest monsoon. Experts said there might be more spells of rain after the middle of September.

On Sunday, the mercury touched 32°C between 10.30am and 11.30am and began to dip after 1.30pm.
Chennai has received 392.6mm of rain since June 1 as against the normal of 324.1 21mm, a surplus of 21%.
