Several parts of Saurashtra, Kutch and north
Gujarat reeled under a heavy wet spell on Sunday even as the meteorological department predicted more rainfall over the next few days.
The heaviest rainfall was recorded in Kutiyana of Porbandar district, which was lashed by 134 mm of rain.
Torrential rain also lashed Lakhpat, Abdasa and Nakhatrana talukas of
Kutch district and Manawadar of
Junagadh district.
While Mata na Madh village of Lakhpat taluka was inundated after the village pond started overflowing, a three-year-old girl died after being struck by lightning in Dihor village of Talaja taluka in Bhavnagar district. Mata Na Madh received nearly 75 mm rainfall.
“A cyclonic circulation over Kutch and neighbourhood extending up to 3.6 km above mean sea level persisted on Sunday. The system is likely to bring in good rainfall in almost all the regions of Gujarat,” said a senior official of Indian Meteorological Department, Ahmedabad.
Heavy rainfall is likely to continue in Kheda, Anand, Vadodara, Panchmahal, Chhota Udepur, Surendranagar, Bhavnagar and Botad on Monday and in Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand and Mahisagar on Tuesday and Wednesday.
On Thursday, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in north Gujarat districts including Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli and Mahisagar.
