RAJKOT: A man was booked on Saturday night for allegedly raping a 19-year-old woman several times in the past six months in Rajkot.
The accused, identified as Vivek Makwana (20), had allegedly ‘married’ the survivor in a hotel room near
Madhapar Chowkdy on
Jamnagar Road before committing the crime.
According to police, Makwana put vermilion on the survivor’s head and garlanded her with a mangalsutra before raping her. He raped her on several occasions in different hotels of Rajkot and
Chotila of
Surendranagar district and also allegedly clicked nude photographs of the survivor.
“When the survivor asked Makwana to marry her before their families in public, Makwana started avoiding her. When the survivor met Makwana’s father Prabhat, he said that he couldn’t get her married to his son as she was a
Dalit. Then either Makwana or his father also uploaded the survivor’s nude photographs on WhatsApp and soon it went viral on social media. Following this, the survivor lodged a complaint with the police,” said an official from Gandhigram police station.
