PUNE: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a wet week ahead for the city.
An IMD forecast on Sunday said rainfall activity was likely to increase in the city, which has experienced subdued showers over the past fortnight.
On Sunday, Shivajinagar recorded 3mm of rainfall, while Lohegaon received 5mm. For Monday, IMD forecast light rainfall for the city. From Tuesday to Saturday, the city is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall. The maximum temperature will be around 27-28°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to be 22-23°C.
“A number of pro-rainfall weather systems are likely to be formed, which will boost the rainfall activity in the city. The impact of these systems will be felt across the state too, as showers are expected in other parts of
Maharashtra, including Marathwada and Vidarbha,” a senior Met department official said.
“A cyclonic circulation lies over central parts of Madhya Pradesh. One more cyclonic circulation is present over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of west-central Bay of Bengal and the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coast. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is very likely to develop over the next 24 hours,” the daily weather bulletin published by IMD on Sunday stated.
“All these systems are going to help increase showers. Along with Maharashtra, states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Goa will also see increased showers,” the IMD official said.
He added that the coastal areas of Maharashtra and its neighbouring states will receive heavy showers. “These conditions are likely to prevail for the next five days,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the catchment areas of the four dams that supply water to Pune also witnessed rainfall on Sunday.
Khadakwasla received 1mm, while Panshet (9mm), Varasgaon (11mm) and Temghar (15mm) received slightly more rainfall.
The collective storage of these dams stood at 28.53 TMC, which was 97.87% of their total capacity. Barring Temghar, the other three dams are filled to capacity. Temghar holds 3.28 TMC, or 88.05% of its capacity.
