Less than a month after the withdrawal of special status to the state, 782 youths from
Jammu and Kashmir joined the Army in
Srinagar and
Leh on Saturday.
While 207 youths joined
Ladakh Scouts Regiment in Srinagar and Leh, 575 youngsters from J&K joined various ranks in Srinagar. "The latest batch of 575 young soldiers from J&K joined Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry in a glittering parade held at the regimental centre in Srinagar," said PRO (defence)
Udhampur, Lt Col Abhinav Navneet.
"The passing out parade, depicting the graduation of a recruit and his transformation into a young soldier, was reviewed by Lt Gen Ashwani Kumar, Adjutant General and parents and relatives of young soldiers," he added. The dauntless young soldiers of the regiment hailing from all regions and religions of J&K, marching in precise unison with a singular aim of devoting their lives in service of their nation, singing their Regimental Song 'Balidanam Veer Lakshnam', inspired one and all as their voices echoed in the Valley.
The Adjutant General congratulated the soldiers for their parade and impressed upon them the need for selfless service to the nation. Recruit Sawan Kumar received the Sher-e-Kashmir Sword of Honour & Triveni Singh Medal for being adjudged ‘Overall Best Recruit’ while recruit Pankaj Kumar bagged the Chewang Rinchen Medal for being best in firing.
Meanwhile, to mark the entry of 207 recruits into the Ladakh Scouts Regiment, a parade was held at the Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre in Leh.
