The implementation of the new Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, which includes enhancement of penalties for traffic violations, will be delayed in the State.
Principal Secretary (Transport) Sunil Sharma directed the officials that the penalties in the new Act should not be implemented immediately, as the government was discussing the quantity of penalties to be collected.
“We have told our transport officers to educate the public that the new act is not being implemented from Sunday. I have checked with AP, Karnataka, Kerala and some other States. They are deliberating upon the quantum of penalties and other modalities. They are also not implementing the Act from today (Sunday),” he told the officials.
