PUNE: The Hinjewadi police on Saturday arrested a 37-year-old man for moving around in a car along the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass while posing as a police officer.
The police recovered a cap of police officer, belt and a police monogram from his car, which he was found driving with the word 'Police' written in bold letters on its rear windshield.
Police constable Vikas Sanap, who is posted with the Pimpri
Chinchwad traffic branch, has lodged a complaint against Sudesh Shivaji Navale (37) of Walhekarwadi in Chinchwad with the Hinjewadi police station following which the Hinjewadi police arrested him.
Navale is employed with a private company and wanted to avert toll fees at different national and state highways, police said.
Police said that in order to ditch the toll fees, Navale came up with an idea to write ‘Police’ in the rear windshield. He also bought a police officer’s cap and a leather belt having monogram of
Maharashtra Police.
Generally, police officers keep the cap and leather belt on the dash board of their vehicles and Navale too kept the cap and belt on the dash board of his car in order to imitate them.
Police said that Navale does not have police uniform but bought these articles to mislead the toll booth staffers. He or his relatives are not employed with the state police. Police are investigating from where Navale got the cap and belt with the monogram.
