Ludhiana: As part of the ongoing cleanliness drive, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has nabbed 70 passengers from the Ludhiana railway station for consuming tobacco products and defacing the boundary walls of the station by spitting.
During checking, officials of both departments inspected more than two hundred trains passing through the city station and challaned those violating the railway norms and creating problems for other passengers.
Anil Kumar, in-charge of Railway Protection Force (Ludhiana post), said that there was an expected rise in the footfall due to the upcoming festive season and cases of consumption of tobacco products and spitting has been on a rise.
“We have inspected more than 200 trains passing through the city railway station and spread awareness among passengers about the harsh punishment of violating the norms and the effects of consuming tobacco products on a day-to-day basis.”
During the awareness session, the railway authorities primarily targeted youngsters, college going students about the anti-smoking drive. Railway officials informed that the offenders were primarily from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Kolkata bound trains.
Earlier too, ahead of summer vacation, a week-long drive was organized by the Railway Protection Force along with the railway authorities to keep the station premises clean and safe for visitors.
