SWANSEA — A 55-year-old man was pronounced dead after being found in the water at Swansea Town Beach on Saturday afternoon, police say.

At around 1 p.m., police received a 911 call regarding an unresponsive male at the Swansea Town Beach, according to a statement issued by the Swansea Police Department on Saturday night.

The man was located in the water by kayakers, who alerted bystanders on the beach for assistance, police said. He was pulled to shore where the bystanders administered CPR.

Swansea Ambulance personnel arrived and provided life support before transporting the man to Charlton Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

Police are not releasing the victim's identity until his relatives are notified.

The incident remains under investigation by Swansea police as well as the Massachusetts State Police detectives unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s office.

Just over a month ago, 39-year-old Jason Davis of Fall River died while swimming at Swansea Town Beach with his girlfriend on July 21. According to a DA spokesman, Davis' girlfriend told police she briefly went underwater and after resurfacing saw Davis floating face down.

At the time, the DA's office said Davis suffered from preexisting medical conditions, and it was not clear whether the death was a result of drowning or a medical incident.
