Assam NRC row: Father served as policeman in Assam, son’s name dropped out from final list

Roy family find it very difficult to accept that names of entire family including children have been dropped from final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list, despite their father served as inspector in Assam Police for 40 years and younger son of the family is still performing duties in Assam Police department. The family claimed that their legacy data and each member's details were stolen and used by some other family. The imposters succeeded enlisting themselves in final list while real ones are left out. “I don't understand how fairly NRC is working. It really pains that original residents like us are facing this,” breaking into tears, said Mrinal Roy, son of late police inspector SC Roy. Nearly 2 million people from the East Indian state of Assam were excluded from a final citizenship list that is intended to identify legal residents and weed out illegal immigrants. The final list was released on August 31.
