AHMEDABAD: For the past 10 days, 24-year-old Shanti Veer Bahadur Sunar, a resident of Darji Sheri in Dholera of Ahmedabad district had been demanding her husband to take her to her parental home in Nepal. However, her husband Veer Bahadur, who hails from Dadapor in Kanchanpur in Nepal and works in a hotel in Dholera, asked her to wait till he got his salary. Upset at this, the woman on Friday first killed their two-year-old son by
slitting his throat with a knife and then hanged herself to death from the ceiling of their one-room house with a dupatta.
The gruesome incident came to light only after the husband returned home from work at around 10 pm.
According to DSP DC Vaghela of Dholera taluka, Bahadur told cops that he kept knocking on the door on Friday night, but nobody answered it for long. He then broke down the door with the help of his neighbours and to his horror, saw his wife hanging from the ceiling rod while their two-year-old son Laxman was lying in a pool of blood.
“We got the woman down and sent both the bodies for
post mortem,” Vaghela added.
During primary questioning, the husband revealed about his wife's demand to visit her parents in Nepal for the past 10 days which also resulted in the couple having frequent disputes over the matter. “Bahadur told her to wait for about 10 days more till he received his salary and that they can then go home together. However, Shantidevi was not assured by Bahadur’s words and ultimately took the extreme step,” said a police source.
Vaghela said the police have registered a case of murder against the woman for killing her son and also registered a case of accidental death for the suicide.
