Motor vehicles amendment Act yet to be implemented in Tamil Nadu

Two-wheeler riders, who fail to wear helmet, will have to cough up Rs 1,000 instead of Rs 100.
COIMBATORE: The revised penalty system for traffic violations in the central motor vehicles amendment Act, which was launched across the nation on Sunday to improve road safety, was not implemented in the state on Sunday.
While the new penalty system has been implemented across the nation from September 1, it would take a week to implement it across the state, a senior police officer said. “The e-challan devices have to be calibrated to the new system,” he told TOI.
Earlier, the traffic police imposed a fine of Rs 500 under Section 180 of the act for driving without licence. The fine has now been revised to Rs 5,000. For drunken driving, the fine has been raised from Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000. You’ll have to shell out Rs 5,000 instead of Rs 500 for overspeeding.
Those who are not wearing seat belts will have to pay Rs 1,000 instead of Rs 100. The penalty on dangerous driving has been increased to Rs 5,000 from Rs 1,000.
The fine for overloading in goods vehicles has been increased to Rs 20,000 from Rs 2,000. Rs 2,000 would be collected for every extra tonne.
Police would collect Rs 2,000 per extra passenger in overloaded vehicles.
While Rs 100 was collected for overloading two-wheelers, now, police will collect Rs 2,000 and also suspend licence for three months.
Two-wheeler riders, who fail to wear helmet, will have to cough up Rs 1,000 instead of Rs 100. Their licence also will be recommended to the RTOs for temporary cancellation for three months.

Those who fail to give way for emergency vehicles like ambulance and fire service will be slapped with Rs 1,000 fine.
If juveniles are involved in traffic violations, the guardian or owner of the vehicle shall be held guilty and will have to pay Rs 25,000 and undergo three years imprisonment. The juvenile will face trial under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and the registration of vehicle will be cancelled.
