SILCHAR: Bengali crusader
Nitish Kumar Bhattacharjee, who is the head of a literary-cultural organization in the
Barak Valley, criticised the final
NRC, saying people who have been living here for a long time have been left out of the list.
"NRC officials seem to have randomly deleted names from the list. This is a case of gross negligence on the part of NRC authorities. We want the entire NRC list to be revised to ensure that no genuine Indian citizen is left out," Bhattacharjee, who is the president of Barak Upatyaka Banga Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelon, told TOI.
"Since 2015, we have been saying the NRC update process might not be flawless. Today, a person in Hailakandi broke down after he found he had failed to make it to the final NRC. He kept saying he doesn't have enough money to appeal for inclusion before a foreigners' tribunal," he added.
"But our demand is simple. We want the NRC list to be revised so that all
genuine citizens irrespective of language, religion, caste and creedare included. It is also the responsibility of the government to ensure that the NRC is flawless," Bhattacharjee said.
