PONDA: The additional district and sessions court at Ponda on Saturday sentenced Amita Bhomkar, a 27-year-old woman from
Varchawada-Bhoma, Ponda, to life imprisonment for killing her husband in 2015 at Marcel, Ponda.
Holding the woman guilty under Section 302 of the
Indian Penal Code of murdering her husband Nilesh Bhomkar alias Tatu in a fit of rage on October 27, 2015, Ponda additional district judge Bela Naik has ordered her to pay a fine of Rs 1,000, public prosecutor
Satyawan Raut Dessai said.
On the fateful day, Tatu did not return home, prompting Amita to go in search of him. After learning that he was seen at an under-construction building at Marcel, she went there with her (then) 2.5-year-old child to bring him back home. She found Tatu inebriated and asleep at the site.
When he woke up, there were heated exchanges between the couple. Amita subsequently beat Tatu with a large log on his head and waist. He had sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Betki primary health centre, where he was declared dead on arrival.
After investigating the matter, then Ponda PI Sudesh Naik had filed a chargesheet on January 21, 2016. The court examined 22 witnesses produced by the prosecution in the case.
