Coimbatore: While the city police have given permission to various Hindu outfits to install 395 Ganesh idols, the rural police have given permission to install
1,564 idols.
The city police will deploy 1,500 police personnel for security measures for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations on Monday, while the rural police will deploy 2,000 police personnel.
Police said armed reserve police and 100 police personnel from the special task force (STP) will be deployed in the sensitive areas in Mettupalayam.
While Hindu Munnani will install 116 Ganesh idols at several places in the city, Hindu Makkal Katchi will install 38 idols. Bharat Sena will set up 24 idols, Hindu Bharat Sena 6 and the BJP 11 idols.
Police said an armed reserve police and two home guards will be deployed for each Ganesh idol.
The procession for idol immersion would be held in the city on September 4 and 6. The idols will be immersed at Kurichi Kulam, Ukkadam Periyakulam, Muthannan Kulam, Singanallur Kulam and Sengulam.
In rural Coimbatore, Hindu Munnani will install 896 idols, Vishwa Hindu Parishad 260, VHP (Tamizhagam) 26 and the BJP, 7.
Around 150 police personnel from Erode district to be deployed in rural areas area and 100 personnel from Tamil Nadu special police to be deployed in the district.
The procession for idol immersion to be held on September 4 and 5 in rural Coimbatore. Idols from Mettupalayam and Thudiyalur will be immersed at Bhavani river and few other tanks on September 4. The next day idols from Pollachi will be immersed.
