Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani on Saturday flagged off the first batch of vehicles that the Coimbatore Corporation would use for waste collection.
A release from the Corporation said that he flagged off the vehicles at a function held at Selvapuram.
The Corporation had bought 102 vehicles at ₹ 5.71 crore.
It would use the vehicles for collecting only wet waste to be used for compost preparation.
The release also said that the Minister participated in the ground-breaking ceremony for a drinking water main pipeline that the Corporation would lay on the Siruvani Road, between Telugupalayam and Selvapuram, at ₹ 1.69 crore, construction of covering lids over storm water drains on Devendra Street and Arul Garden in Ward 78 and 77 and construction of additional building at the Selvapuram North Primary School.
