TO THE EDITOR:
Regarding Keith Crain's "When is enough, enough?" (Aug. 19): One thing that the manufacturers do not consider is that the dealers who sell their products have to be able to service them. This means purchasing expensive equipment, designed by and sold by the manufacturer, training technicians at manufacturer training locations (which are already understaffed) and presenting the technology to the consumer.
The dealers' parts inventories will not grow as electric vehicles are phased in, but will balloon from day one because you have no sales history. Crain is right: Someone better slow down and think this thing through, or the automobile business as we know it will be gone. That may be part of the long-term plan.
