Car found torched after hit-run collision leaves man, boy injured
A car found engulfed in flames in Melbourne's south-east has been linked to a hit-run collision that left a man and child injured about 20 kilometres away.
Police are investigating the hit-run crash that occurred on Power Road in Doveton just after 3.30pm on Sunday.
A Holden Commodore sedan with stolen number plates was seen driving erratically before it side-swiped another car.
The driver then lost control and the car hit a tree.
A 22-year-old man and a five-year-old boy were in the car which was side-swiped.
Both were taken to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
The Commodore driver was then picked up by a driver in an Audi.
As it sped away from the scene, it clipped a pedestrian who wasn't seriously injured.
Shortly after, police were called to reports of a car on fire in Ashwood, a half hour's drive from Doveton.
Police suspect the burning Audi is the same car that picked up the driver involved in the hit-run.
Footage from Nine News shows firefighters battling the blaze in a car park near Gardiners Creek Trail.
The offenders are still on the run.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or with any dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
