2 held for smuggling hooch
Sadar Police have arrested two local residents during late night patrolling here on charges of smuggling illicit liquor for a local resident. The accused were identified as Rahul Palta and Pramod Kumar. Constable Amrik Singh said a high-tech checkpost was established near Keys Hostel during the late night hours of Saturday here in the city. Meanwhile, both the accused were passing through the checkpost in their car, carrying heavy luggage. After seeing the police party, they tried to flee from the spot but to no avail. On finding their activities suspicious, police seized their vehicle and recovered 20 cartons of illicit liquor from their possession. A case under a section of the Excise Act was registered against both the accused in the local police station.
2 unknown snatchers booked
Division 7 police booked two unknown persons on charges of snatching a purse and mobile phone from a city-based elderly woman on Saturday evening. Investigation officer Ram Krishan said Jyoti Jain, the complainant, informed police that on Saturday she was going towards Ghumar Mandi to buy household items. When she reached the gurdwara road in the market, two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched her purse in which there was a mobile phone. Both the accused escaped unhurt from the spot after the crime. A case under sections 379-B, and 34 of the IPC has been registered against unknown persons.
