GURUGRAM: The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has instructed the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) to take action against the errant common effluent treatment plants (CETPs) — one in Manesar and two in Faridabad.
Earlier this month, the CPCB had directed the HSPCB to take action against non-compliant treatment plants in Haryana.
Out of the 14 plants in Haryana which require corrective action, two are in Faridabad and one is in the city.
While the treatment plant in Manesar is complying with the norms, it doesn’t have valid authorisations from the HSPCB.
“The treatment plant is complying with prescribed discharge standards for monitoring parameters. It is receiving effluents from automobiles, pharmaceuticals, paints, hospitals and plastic (2,500 units). (However) It doesn’t have valid consents and authorisation. Consent to operate was refused by HSPCB due to capacity increase from 15 MLD to 30 MLD. The plant treats effluents of 47 MLD as against the designed capacity of 55 MLD,” states a report on CETPs in Haryana as per the inspection of CPCB during 2019.
The report, a copy of which is with TOI, has suggested that the treatment plant should obtain a valid consent within two months.
A CETP located in Faridabad’s Sector 68 is complying with norms, whereas one in Sector 58 is not.
“CETP in Sector 58 is not complying with prescribed discharge limits … the operator shall improve operation of CETPs as to meet discharge standards immediately,” states the report.

“We will direct the CETP operators to comply with norms. We will make sure that all directions are followed within the stipulated timeframe,” said a senior official from HSPCB.
The CPCB has directed the HSPCB to submit a report on compliance within 15 days.
