PUNE: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched a ‘One Child One Plant’ campaign for the affiliated schools as part of its programme to sensitise school children about environmental issues.

The planting activities by students could also be graded for internal assessment, stated the notification issued by CBSE in this regard.

Under the campaign, the Board has instructed every school to ask each of its students (all classes) to plant a sapling wherever convenient, whether in school premises or at home or in the boundaries of the playgrounds or any other place, which was approachable to them.

“Discussions may be held in class about the variety/species of the tree/sapling planted, its benefits, its occurrence, the kind of looking after it requires, etc. This will help the students relate to the activity better. Schools must also create awareness among students to take care of the plant, which they have planted,” the notification further stated.

The CBSE Bye-Laws 2018 have also mentioned that schools must strive to promote conservation of the environment on their campus through various activities like rainwater harvesting, recycling, energy-saving, etc. It has also stated that the annual reports of the schools must contain write-ups on all efforts made in this regard every year.
