Air New Zealand and Cathay Pacific will extend their alliance

26 Aug 2019 by Seher Asaf

Air New Zealand and Cathay Pacific will extend their joint venture alliance until October 31, 2024.

The alliance, which was formed in 2013, saw the carriers introduce new routes such as a non-stop seasonal service to Christchurch, which will increase from three to four services per week this year, and daily flights between Auckland and Hong Kong.

The seasonal service between Hong Kong and Christchurch for the “North Winter 2019” season will begin on November 25 and continue until February 30 next year, a spokesperson from Air New Zealand told Business Traveller Asia-Pacific.

“Hong Kong is an important gateway for travel within North Asia, including into Southern China and beyond. We have a strong partnership with Cathay Pacific and together we can stimulate tourism and trade, as well as providing customers with better connectivity and choice,” says Air New Zealand chief strategy, networks and alliances officer Nick Judd.

New Zealand’s flag carrier said that it has welcomed the decision by the Minister of Transport Phil Twyford to re-authorise the agreement.

The alliance partners jointly operate a total of 25 return services per week during peak months, according to Air New Zealand.

Cathay and Air New Zealand last extended their partnership in 2015.
