2 booked for abetment to suicide

Ludhiana: Dehlon police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against two persons on Saturday.
Both the accused have been identified as Manjit Kaur of New Janta Nagar and Mehar Singh of SBS Nagar. The deceased has been identified as Balwinder Singh, 50.
In the police complaint, Harpreet Singh, son of the deceased, said his family has been running a tools manufacturing unit at Partap Chownk since the past several years. He added that a few months ago, they collaborated with Manjit Kaur for expanding their exports business.
Harpreet in his complaint said, “Manjit Kaur, who was working in our unit, tried withdrawing Rs 35 lakh using a blank cheque, issued in the company’s name, without our consent. Due to insufficient balance in the account, the cheque bounced and my father was dragged into a case. After the incident, my father started remaining worrisome and depressed all the time.”
Harpeert added, “Mehar Singh, who is unknown to our family, had also started demanding money without listening to our grievances related to poor financial conditions. The situation forced my father to take the extreme step.”

Speaking about the case, investigating officer, Surinder Singh, said, “Two days ago, a suicide note was recovered from Balwinder’s two-wheelers, which was stationed near Ramgarh village. The body was found in a nearby canal.”
Following the statement of the family members, police have registered a case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of IPC against both the accused for further legal proceeding in this matter”. “Still both of them were away from police arrested as the police investigation was at its initial stage”, told police.
