MC to tie up with Tibba Road cowshed to tackle stray cattle menace

Ludhiana: To eradicate the problem of stray cattle in areas falling under the East constituency, the civic body will now tie up with a cowshed on Tibba Road where stray cattle will be shifted from the roadside. A meeting will be held on Monday wherein cow shed management members, civic officials and dairy owners will be present.
The areas from Jalandhar bypass, vegetable market, Tibba Road, Rahon Road etc. are grappling with stray cattle menace. A few accidents have also taken place in these areas when stray cattle suddenly appear in front of moving vehicles.
The civic body is currently lifting stray cattle with the help of Govind Gau Dham. However, only one cowshed management is not able to manage the task single-handedly.
A resident of Rahon Road, Amit Bajaj, said those living in areas like Tajpur Road, Rahon Road and adjoining areas, including commuters, have been fazed due to the stray cattle menace. He added that stray cattle can be seen fighting with each other at various chowks and points. He demanded that the issue be resolved as soon as possible.
The Congress MLA from East constituency, Sanjay Talwar, claimed that it takes a long time for the existing cow shed management to lift stray cattle from East constituency and by the time they come back to lift some more, the number of strays increase. He said he has talked to the cow shed management at Tibba Road and they have agreed upon keeping cattle there. It has also been decided that the civic body will pay for the upkeep of the lifted cattle.

Talwar claimed that around 400 stray cattle were counted in a recent survey. He added that in order to keep a check on people who abandon their cattle, CCTV cameras will be installed at selected points.
Meanwhile, senior veterinary officer of MC, Y P Singh said things will become clear after the meeting on Monday. He said if the cow shed management is willing to lift cattle from the roads, MC will have no issue with the same.
