JAIPUR: State higher education minister Bhanwar Singh Bhati has landed in a controversy after allegedly urging voters to support NSUI candidates through a post on social media.
The BJP has objected to the statement and sought an apology from the minister for trying to influence voters. A post shared by former education minister Vasudev Devnani showed the minister urging the voters to support NSUI candidates in the students’ union polls slated on August 27. The poster was taken from the unverified account of Bhati (BSBhatiINC).

“This is against all the set protocols for lawmakers holding ministerial ranks. The minister cannot appeal for any party as it tantamount to influencing the polls. The party will protest if the minister does not remove the post and clarify his stand,” said Devnani.

TOI called and texted minister Bhati, but he chose not to respond. “It is clear that state machinery is completely involved tampering the polls,” Neeraj Jain of BJP said.
The minister was not even spared by Twitter users. Sachin Khare, a Twitter user, reminded him to be the minister of all not of the NSUI. The union polls results are indicator of the popularity of the political parties.
