A total of 21,307 candidates appeared for the exam for the posts of Grade II police constable, jail warder and fireman under Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board, across 28 exam centres in Madurai district, on Sunday.
Out of the 25,185 applicants, 3,878 candidates - 3,290 men and 588 women - didn’t turn up for the exam.
The exam was held under the supervision of Commissioner of Police Davidson Devasirvatham and the leadership of Superintendent of Police N. Manivannan.
As many as 2,100 police personnel - 28 Deputy Superintendents of Police, 73 Inspectors, 338 Sub- Inspectors and 1,625 constables - were engaged in arrangements and protection duty.
