Women held for gambling in Virar

MUMBAI: A group of women, including some senior citizens, were arrested in Virar for gambling. The 13 women were gambling inside a building during a game of cards on Thursday, said the police. Acting on a tip-off, the Arnala police raided the premises at Agashi Chawlpeth in Arnala and found two groups of women playing 'teen pati'.
The gambling den was being operated by a 52-year-old woman from Kandivli, said the police. The arrested accused include a 65-year-old and four 60-year-old women. The others are in the 53-59 age group. The police have been booked under the Bombay Gambling Act and recovered Rs 26,780. Cops said they had received complaints about the gambling den and they had received information that ahead of Janmashtami, a big group of women will be gathering to place bets. All the women are from in and around Virar, said the police.
