PETER KURAVITA’S COASTAL KITCHEN ★★★½
Double episode series final, 9.30pm, SBS Food
The charming host’s Sri Lankan approach to herbs and spices adds an interesting layer to his presentation of the organic produce of the NSW hinterland. Here, he meets a seasoned grower of ginger and turmeric, who also ferments tempeh. Later, Kuravita samples milk straight from the camel, and visits an impressive urban vegetable garden. Back in the kitchen, he demonstrates a restorative dahl, an Indonesian chicken and noodle soup, and millet balls.
MYTHBUSTERS ★★★½
New series, 7.30pm, SBS Viceland
The new guard at MythBusters HQ, John Lung and Brian Loudon, winners of the reality-series search for replacements for Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, are filling those geeky daredevil sneakers with ease. A little bit hipster, a little bit batty scientist, theyhave the guts to take this audacious concept into a new – if not all that different – era. Their first experiments test what airbags do to feet on dashboards, and the decapitation capabilities of a rocket-powered sword.
999: WHAT’S YOUR EMERGENCY? ★★★
8.30pm, Ten
More than just a gawkfest at others’ misfortune, this British observational documentary goes to great lengths to focus on social problems. Tonight, the featured call-outs are related to sexual violence against women. This epidemic, as it manifests in Wiltshire, is presented as depressingly commonplace and just as depressingly routine for these frontline workers. The predatory nature of some of the perpetrators will shock if not entirely surprise.
