Vadodara: A jawan and a retired soldier of Indian Army were arrested by police with liquor bottles from railway tracks near Shastri Bridge here in the wee hours of Saturday.
Sleuths of local crime branch of Government Railway Police (GRP) were patrolling near Shastri Bridge when Kerala Sampark Kranti Express train coming from Delhi slowed down.
Shashibhushan Singh and Rakesh Kumar Shukla got down from the train’s general coach and were apprehended by the cops. Policemen checked their backpacks and handbags when the duo could not give any satisfactory reply to their questions.
“The accused were carrying 67 bottles of premium brands of Indian made foreign liquor worth Rs1.5 lakh,” said a police official. Asked about the source of liquor, Singh said he purchased the bottles from different army canteens in Haryana using his card while Shukla said that he had purchased them from the army canteen in Gurugram. Both had paid more than the canteen prices for the bottles, cops said.
“They had boarded the train from New Delhi railway station and were going to hand over the bottles to a man named Raju in Vadodara. We are trying to find out more about Raju,” the cops said.
A local court remanded the duo in police custody for two days on Sunday.
