COIMBATORE:
Tamil Nadu forest officials on Sunday tranquilised a lone
wild tusker that killed some people, including three near
Hosur in Krishnagiri district a few years ago.
The tusker, nicknamed Crowbar, which has a broken tusk, had killed a farmer in Thiruvarangam village in neighbouring
Karnataka a few days ago, officials said.
The tusker was tranquilised when it was roaming in the periphery of Perandapalli forest, near Hosur, on Sunday.
A forest department veterinarian used darts to tranquilise the tusker. Forest officials brought a kumki named Mariappan from Varakaliyar
elephant camp in Coimbatore district to capture the wild elephant.
The tusker would be translocated to Mudhumalai Tiger Reserve, officials said.
