UP: Cops suspended for harassing CRPF jawan, woman friend

MEERUT: Four UP police constable were suspended after they illegally detained a CRPF constable (name withheld) who had come down to Deoband with a woman friend. The couple was picked by the constables and later detained at a police outpost without any valid reason.
The constables also tried to blackmail the couple by informing their respective parents about the relationship. The incident happened on August 13 following which a probe was ordered after matter reached senior police officials in Saharanpur district.
According to sources, the accused constable spotted the CRPF personnel and his woman friend sitting together in Saharanpur's Deoband area on August 13 earlier this month. The couple was brought to Railway Road police outpost where they were allegedly harassed and were also blackmailed by the cops.
The incident was brought to the knowledge of Deoband inspector who later briefed his senior officials, including SSP Dinesh Kumar P. A internal inquiry was initiated and all the accused constables -- Vinnet, Pramod Kumar, akhilesh and Nripendra -- were suspended.
"Certain allegations against all the four accused constables were found to be true following which they were suspended. The Deoband circle officer has been directed to initiate a detailed probe into the case," Saharanpur SSP Dinesh Kumar said.
