PUNE: A mentally ill daily man bludgeoned his eight-month pregnant wife to death and attempted suicide by stabbing himself with a sharp blade at Phugewadi near Bhosari on Sunday.
The Bhosari police have identified the deceased woman as Puja Gopal Ghevande (23). The suspect Gopale Ghevande is undergoing treatment in the Sassoon general hospital.
The Bhosari police said that the Ghevande was daily wages worker and the couple had two sons. “On Sunday around 5.30pm, Puja was preparing tea. Her children were sitting next to her when Gopale entered the house and all of a sudden started attacking his wife with the sharp weapon and bludgeoned her to death and also stabbed himself. His sons ran out of the house and informed their relatives,” an officer said.
The relatives took the duo to a nearby hospital, where Puja was pronounced brought dead. “Gopale has been shifted to the Sassoon hospital in Pune,” the officer said, adding, “We have booked him under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.”
