Roads prone to potholes must be identified: Rural development minister Michael Lobo

Lobo said the road stretch at Nagoa was prone to potholes due to water logging
CALANGUTE: All MLAs and panchayat members need to identify road stretches in their areas which are perennially prone to developing large potholes, said rural development minister Michael Lobo.
Lobo, who was recently inspecting the ongoing repair work on a potholed road stretch at Nagoa, told reporters that the stretch of road was prone to potholes.
“This spot at Nagoa had become accident-prone because of the potholes and many people have even been injured. When it rains, water from a nullah accumulates here, thus washing away the road. Now we’ve made gutters on either said to allow the water to flow. We have also repaired the road using inter-locking paver blocks. The PWD is doing it as ‘monsoon work’ at a cost of Rs 25 lakh,” Lobo said.

He said that there are many such perennial pothole-ridden stretches across the state which need to be identified so that corrective measures can be taken. “We MLAs are duty bound to take precautionary measures at such accident spots,” he said.
Lobo said that a road stretch near the Shantadurga temple at Candolim was recently concretised at a cost of Rs 2 lakh. “Next we’re going to repair the Verla -Canca circle which also regularly develops potholes,” the local MLA said.
