Illegal parking: Shops sealed in Nehrunagar

The menace of illegal parking continues unabated. To curb the same, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has now started sealing shops that allow illegal parking in the vicinity, causing traffic snarls. The civic body on Friday sealed 15 shops which had visitors parking their vehicles along the stretch connecting Sahajanand College and Nehrunagar.

Another shop near Darpan Six Roads was also sealed after its visitors parked vehicles illegally outside, hindering smooth traffic. By sealing shops, the civic body wants to ensure that the shopkeepers take the responsibility for the parking done by their visitors. The AMC also undertook an encroachment drive near Gujarat University, Vijay Crossroads and Darpan Six Roads to remove unauthorised vendors occupying the roads.

A temple, which was obstructing traffic near Anjali Crossroads, was also razed. Chaitanya Shah, Estate TDO of AMC (West Zone) said, “We are conducting a drive to remove illegally-parked vehicles opposite shops and unauthorised vendors who occupied the streets to ensure traffic bottlenecks are not created. We also sealed several shops which had visitors parking their vehicles on the road. The drive will continue until shop owners take responsibility of the vehicles parked by their visitors and get them parked properly.”

Ankit Patel, a resident of Satellite told Mirror, “Despite wide roads, at least one lane gets blocked due to visitors parking their vehicles illegally outside a shop, creating traffic jams. If the AMC continues to penalise shopkeepers, they will ensure vehicles are not parked haphazardly.”
