SURAT: Directorate General of GST Investigation’s (
DGGI) Surat unit has detected
tax evasion to the tune
of Rs3.80 crore by two firms engaged in construction and roof construction business in the city on Friday.
Official sources said raids were conducted at the premises of both the firms in the city which led to seizure of incriminating documents. Detailed investigation revealed evasion of tax to the tune of Rs3.80 crore by the two firms.
In the first case, DGGI officials raided the company engaged in providing construction service and industrial works. The taxpayer had provided taxable services, but had not filed any service tax returns since October 2015. The amount of service tax evaded was to the tune of Rs3 crore.
The other case was of a unit that manufactures colour roofing sheets and roof sheds. It was involved in removal of goods clandestinely under the cover of kachha deliver challans without payment of GST. Documents revealed tax evasion to the tune of Rs80 lakh.
Official sources said the department collected Rs1.5 crore and Rs40 lakh on the spot against outstanding tax dues from both the parties.
