The boy had previously shown an interest in the outdoors and exploring the bush.

But his grandmother, Lloma Dunne, told the media that it was very out of character for Micheal to be missing for this long

Aerial and ground searches of bushland near the small town of Mooloolah Valley are underway, after his bike was found on Saturday.

It was around this area where his mobile phone last recorded a signal.

A local bushwalker described the area as difficult to search due to the numerous tracks in the dense bushland.

However, police and volunteers are being thorough and doing their best to find the teenager.

Family friend Tracy Disney shared her concerns with the ABC saying she fears time may be running out.

'We're devastated, we're just so scared, we're just so worried. We just have no clue, don't know what to think. It's just a nightmare,' she said.

Police are urging for anyone who may have information about his whereabouts to come forward.
