Karnataka floods: Death toll touches 76

The death toll in the floods and rain fury across the State has increased to 76 with more bodies being recovered. As many as 10 people are still listed missing.

The number of people living in relief camp has come down to 2.2 lakh, from nearly 4 lakh earlier in the week, and the number of relief camps has been brought down to 526, from the nearly 2,000 camps that were operated in the coastal and Malnad districts. As ground assessment of the damage continued, the number of houses damaged in 103 flood-affected taluks in 22 districts increased to over 75,000. The number of animal deaths is now at 992. A preliminary assessment has estimated damage to crops on 6.9. lakh hectares.

Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre has predicted the coastal and Malnad districts to likely receive widespread rains (moderate to heavy) in the next two days.
