BAREILLY: A man allegedly slit his former wife’s nose after learning that she was in a relationship with another person in Gola area of Lakhimpur Kheri district on Sunday. He and his accomplices are on the run.
The suspect, identified as Mohammed Sajid were married four years ago. The couple had divorced six months ago as Sajid used to suspect that his wife was cheating on him and would thrash her often. The formalities of parting ways were peacefully completed by both families and the woman returned to her maternal house.
However, Sajid could not come to terms with his ex-wife’s single status. With both living in the same neighbourhood, he kept tabs on her.
On Sunday, Sajid barged into former wife’s house with four of his accomplices, thrashed her and later slit her nose with a knife.
The woman was admitted at the community health centre in Gola town. Later, she was referred to a higher centre as a surgery of her nose is necessary.
DP Tiwari, SHO of Gola police station, told TOI, “Our initial investigation suggests that the accused wanted to take his first wife back home while she wanted to marry elsewhere.”

An FIR was later registered against against Sajid and his aides under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 504 (intentional insult).
Recounting her ordeal, the woman told TOI, “My former husband lives in the neighbourhood and wants me to go back to him but I refused. That is why, he and his aides attempted to kill me and slit my nose with a knife. I fought hard to save myself or else he would have killed me. I am extremely scared and have made a complaint to police as well. I don’t want to go back to him under any circumstances.”
