BENGALURU: Four years after renowned scholar MM Kalburgi was gunned down inside his home in north Karnataka's Dharwad, a special investigation team (SIT) on Saturday submitted a 1,631-page chargesheet, holding six men responsible for his murder. The chargesheet, submitted before the special court for
Karnataka Control of Organized Crime Act (KCOCA), names Ganesh Miskin as the shooter and Praveen Prakash Chatur as the man who rode Miskin to Kalburgi's residence. The chargesheet has statements of 138 witnesses, including Kalburgi's wife Umadevi .

Gauri Lankesh murder case, submitted in November 2018, had said that Miskin rode the motorbike that carried alleged shooter Parashuram Waghmore to Gauri's residence.
All the accused - Amol Kale alias Bhaisab alias Sanjay Bansare, 37; Ganesh Miskin alias Xerox alias Mithun, 27; Praveen Prakash Chatur alias Masalevala, 26; Vasudev Bhagvan Suryavamshi alias Mechanic, 29; Sharad Kalaskar alias Chote, 25; and Amit Ramachandra Baddi, 27 - are in judicial custody at the Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru. Except Chatur, the other five were already arrested by the SIT in connection with Gauri murder case.
In February this year, Umadevi had approached the SC, seeking the transfer of Kalburgi's murder case from the CID to the SIT that was probing the Gauri murder case.
Accused followed ‘Kshatra Dharma Sadhana’A press release by SIT said the probe revealed the accused are active members of an unnamed organisation. They targeted persons who they identified to be inimical to the organisation’s ideology. They followed the guidelines of ‘Kshatra Dharma Sadhana’, a book published by Sanatan Sanstha. While recruiting, emphasis was given to identify those with a history of aggression and criminal background.
