KOLKATA: The Centre for Railway Information Systems (
CRIS) is developing an app so
Metro users can recharge their smart cards without having to stand in queue. Payments will be made via the
IRCTC gateway.
Metro Railway will soon sign an agreement with CRIS and IRCTC to create this facility for passengers. “Hopefully, we will have the app in place before the Pujas. Commuters will just have to download the app on smartphones. They will be redirected to the Metro Railway website where they will be asked to provide the card number and amount to be deducted from their account. The payment will get registered with CRIS. Commuters can check their updated balance at the card balance checking terminal at any station,” said Metro Railway CPRO Indrani Banerjee.
IRCTC will pay a sum in advance to Metro Railway as all payments will be received by it. IRCTC will keep on remunerating Metro as more people go for the facility.
“We have been urging more and more people to use smart cards in the Metro and this new feature will encourage them,” Banerjee added.
