VADODARA: When he delivered food parcels late in the night,
Rahulsinh Mahida often saw many customers frolicking at booze parties. Twenty-five-year old Mahida, who works with a prominent food aggregator, was quick to notice that the parcels often contained munchies that usually go well with liquor.
Seeing the free flow of liquor, Mahida decided to earn some quick bucks through part-time bootlegging as the income from food delivery job was not enough.
But his ambitious plan came a cropper on the very first day itself after he was arrested on Sunday.
Mahida, who has been working with an online food delivery service for past eight months, was nabbed near Nandish Complex on Gotri road. Laxmipura police station cops had received received information about a food delivery boy carrying liquor. When cops checked his bag, which is used for food parcels, they found six beer cans in it.
Mahida was arrested and taken to the police station where an offence of prohibition was registered against it. He told police that the earnings from food delivery were not enough, so he was looking for additional source of income along with the regular job.
“Mahida had often delivered food at liquor parties late at night, so he thought of approach such customers by offering to get them liquor. He wanted to earn some extra money,” said sub-inspector K A Gohil of Laxmipura police station.
Gohil added that on Sunday it was the first time that he had planned to sell liquor and he was caught.
Police are investigating about the source of beer cans seized from Mahida and will also search his house in Laxmipura to check if he had hidden additional stock of liquor.
